QUESTION BY: Torah-man
Is masturbation talked about or allowed in the Bible?

I am asking this question to see if people know their bible the way they should. Or, if you are a Jewish person, like myself, whether or not you know your torah.

"Mare-ga'al Ben Yaakov"  will be giving the correct answer after there is about 10 replies, so look for him.

Thank you .

COMMENTS:

To UFO: You are funny, I did not come here to praise
myself, I came to see if people know their bible or
not; Or, if they believe in "urban-legends" or what
their preachers might say instead. Remember, 99% of
ALL so-called followers of the Rabbi born in
Bethlehem don't practice his faith at all.
Yehoshua's / Jesus' faith was Judaism, not
"Christianity" which Paul invented. That might
shock a good amount of you, but Jesus said "do
             not think that I came to abolish the Torah (Matt 5);
yet, Paul said in Eph 2 that is was abolished,
though not even the apostles taught that in Acts
15 & 21. They only taught that the Torah did not
need to be kept by non-Jews except for 4 things.
Read it again. Again Jesus said, to obey all that
the Pharisees teach, just don't be hypocrites like
them, "Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his
disciples: 'The teachers of the law and the
Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. Therefore, all that
they tell you, do and observe (Matt 23:1);" which
was all of the law of Moses. This is direct
opposition to Paul in Eph 2. Again, a rich kid asked
Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. With
that Jesus replied, "If you want to enter life, obey
the commandments (Matt 19:17)." Thus, nowhere
being close to the doctrine of Paul in "Galatians,"
where Paul said, "you are saved by grace, and
not by the obedience to the torah (law)."

Regardless, because of the wide spread teaching and canonization of Paul, Gentiles simply think that they are saved by grace. Because of that they do not even care or bother to read the Torah, which in fact makes them holy if they should keep it, and sinful if they don't. Even John says, "Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4)." This is why we see Yehoshua condemning to hell those that do in fact believe in him to be the messiah, yet, do not practice the Torah. For this is what he says in Matthew 7: "Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you who practice ['anomia' in GREEK]." This word in Greek means "those that are without the law, and because it is coming from the mouth of a torah man, he is referring to none else, but the law of Moses, not just the 10 commandments, nor just the 2 greatest ones which are mere summations of all the commandments. Meaning, you cannot fulfill the two greatest commandments unless you fulfill all the others.

Thus, UFO, I will have the best answer, because I know what I am talking about.

You sound anti-Semitic - I will not respond to you

To LineDancer,

False, you are wrong. The Bible commentators that you read are in error. For Lev 15:16 has nothing to do with outright erotic dreams, even though it includes it. Erotic dreams are mentioned in Duet 23:10-11.

As far as you quoting Paul, even though I loathe Paul [if you have not noticed] he is not talking about the subject is his writings [I know because I am on his level - for I know what Judaism teaches.] Paul - to his credit -  is talking about forbidden sexual acts, that being deeds outside of marriage, (i.e., fornication, adultery, orgies (which is possibly both depending on who is invited to the orgy) and things that are unnatural and those things which go against breeding (i.e., bestiality, homosexuality, even sodomy with your wife as well as sex toys.)

But the subject that I raised is not listed, this is because it is allowed. I will prove it later in this letter.

To CJ:
You are correct in one regard, Onan was not killed by HaShem because of masturbation. AND - in truth - he was NOT even killed by HaShem because he put his seed on the ground the first or second time around. Rather, it was because he kept on doing that when the poor widow simply wanted children for her dead husband. For by that it was proven that he did not intend to ever have children with her; thus - sinning against her and HaShem and potentially wiping out a clan from Israel. He simply was gratifying himself in the process; thus, HaShem killed him.

The second part of your answer is FALSE, this is because the Torah does talk about it.

****************************************
To Gesus.Kryst,

Wrong, the Holy Jewish bible does allow you to do this and pursue all that your heart desires, but it simply must be in the bounds of the Torah, that's all ma'am.

Let me put it like this: if you are a beloved lamb, you can do anything you so desire within the sheep pen. But you are warned that if you dare, by free will, go out of the pen, the pen will no longer protect you from the elements and wild animals outside of the pen. I hope this is clear, my friend.
Meaning wolves, dogs, wild cats can get you, or you might even fall in your own ditch, whereas the pen is flat and secure. All those that are within the bounds of the Torah are holy and are given salvation, those that are not in the pen are not the shepherd's; thus, lost.

To CHEESYinWisconsin

Actually it's not, but serious. This is because so many people think it's wrong and frown on it.

****************************************
To Granny Annie

Actually you are wrong when in comes to the masturbation portion of your answer, but not sodomy. Whether sodomy be with your wife and especially if it is with another man. According to the Torah, all homosexuals are to be put to death.

****************************************
To Grace
Actually the first portion of your statement is right on track, for you say, "Masturbation is a natural part of sexuality, which can be taken to the extreme, as anything else. Balance is the key."

Even though this is true, it goes a lot deeper then this simple statement.

As far as the rest of your reply, it is true that masturbation has been demonized for whatever reason. In truth, Judaism celebrates sex and fully allows masturbation. However, the two simply must be tamed, not let loose - so as to be perverse, or to be a fornicator, adulterer, or a homosexual, or to even commit incest or bestiality. People must have self control as they need to have with their anger, for that can lead to murder, slander, gossip, property damage and....

Thus, sex in Judaism is neither, "unclean," "filthy," nor "sinful."

"Uncleanness" in the Torah, does not mean "sinful," to the shock of many. When the Torah talks about uncleanness it is only pointing out the fact during such a time you cannot approach that which is holy, nor are you allowed to make yourself unclean during holy days. To the surprise of most, this is why the sons are circumcised on the eighth day after their birth. It has nothing to do with "medical reasons" for modern Gentile doctors do such on the second day after the child's birth. Rather, in the same mentality as the woman having her monthly period, she is unclean for seven days. Well, because the child comes from the same area, he is also unclean for seven days. But because he does not re-touch that area of her body after his birth, by the eighth day he is clean. Thus, the man can then circumcise his son. By this fact, we see that the Torah existed long before Moses going to Sinai, [unlike what Paul mentions]. When a person becomes unclean, this simply does not allow him to partake in festivals and offerings, and in war and you must not make yourself that way during such times. Other than these times you are free to do what you want within the bounds of the Torah. It ONLY becomes sinful if you eat of a holy sacrifice during such times, OR if you do not wash before sundown as the commandment says.

****************************************
To Capri 1230,

Wrong. Though Onan "might" have masturbated during those times, we are not aware of it in the story. The story only tells that he was killed for not raising a son for his dead brother. It was not even for spilling his seed on the ground a few times, but only doing it several times with no intent of ever raising a son up for his dead brother.

****************************************
To whynotaskdonna,

To be honest, I do not like you - because you are crude and vile.
Nonetheless, the torah does NOT prohibite a man from spilling his seed, except in the case of raising an offspring for his dead kin, and that is only based on similar circumstances as Onan.

Regarding women, women are free to take pleasure in themselves on any day except for holidays, because your mind must be on HaShem, not yourself. Likewise, a woman - all by herself - cannot become unclean. She can only become unclean if her husband's seed should touch her anywhere.

****************************************
To apmresearch@sbcgloba…

False, you need to re-read the Torah story, or Onan once again, or stay tuned for the answer.

****************************************
To John Pirhanafishgato,

Wrong. It does in fact talk about it - stay tuned.
The Wikipedia link that you gave is interesting enough, nonetheless - it is wrong. It is because of websites like this that "urban-legends" start or remain alive in the first place. Thus, as "Grace" said above, such websites "demonize" masturbation.

****************************************
To tgeorge12000,

Very good answer about Onan, I would give you a "thumbs up" but I do not know how.

One thing that you say that is wrong is this, "a woman of ill repute." Remember, Judah did not allow her to have his 3rd son, for fear that he too would die; thus, leaving him with no offspring. It was only after this point that she dressed up as a prostitute. While, yes, she fornicated to get the result that she wanted - to raise up a son for herself and her dead husband - this act was far more less sinful than what Judah was doing by not letting her have his 3rd son.

To the surprise of many, the penalty for fornication is not death; rather, it is marriage. Here is a verse to prove it, "And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins (Exodus 22:16-17).

****************************************
To brother_dave001,

You say, "Not much, if any in the old Bible." Actually it does.

You then say, "It is far better to masturbate often if that stops you from being a rapist or pedophile; but to be safe, maybe you should get all of those organs cut off."

What Judaism teaches is that simply saying to someone don't do that, yet if their mind or heart is longing (coveting) to fulfill "rapist" or "pedophile" desires, it is like pinching a hose right in the middle of the hose. Meaning that it will eventually burst. Judaism teaches control and holiness so that the water is total turned off at the faucet, thus, there is not even water in the hose. Understand?

Remember though. just because someone might proclaim to follow Judaism or for that matter anything else, all people must learn to control themselves and do things in a proper way. Man's law may not punish you for the sexual practices one chooses, but this does not mean the God of heaven will not. Likewise, why would the laws of secular societies punish people for their sexual orientation, if they allow you to do whatever you like, just as long you do not violate someone else. But - in truth - this is how a society becomes more and more vile and degenerate.

Thus, let me move on to the answer:
********************************************************************************
********************************************************************************
ANSWER:

First off, as I already mentioned, sex is celebrated in the Torah or the Tanakh. It nonetheless has loose limitations in some areas, and strict limitations in others. That depends on whether you are married or not.

In truth, one of the very first commandments that we find in the Torah is to pro-create. Likewise, you must remember that HaShem made the very first man and woman naked, not that they were dressed.

There are three main commandments in the Torah about a man producing "seed."

Two of these commandments are found in Leviticus 15 and the third is found in Deuteronomy 23.

Thus, let's read;

Leviticus 15:16-17, "'When a man has an emission of semen, he must bathe his whole body with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 17 Any clothing or leather that has semen on it must be washed with water, and it will be unclean till evening."

While this commandment can include erotic dreams, it is clear it is not solely directed to these things. Whereas Deuteronomy 23:10-11 specifically states that it is only referring to erotic dreams, let's look:

"If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there. But as evening approaches he is to wash himself, and at sunset he may return to the camp. "

Notice that the "sin" is not becoming unclean, but if the person does not wash.

Now if we read on past Lev 15:16-17, and come to Leviticus 15:18 we will see that Lev 15:16-17 has nothing to do with the man's wife or concubine, but comes only by self-pleasure. Let's read:

v.18, " When a man lies with a woman and there is an emission of semen, both must bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening."

While, this verse includes pro-creating, it does not limit itself to only pro-creating or actual intercourse.

In truth, if the woman has already climaxed before the man, this does not mean that he "must" climax within her. Rather, he can do so wherever he so desires. Thus, HaShem allows such and delights in the fact that a man and his wife can come together and enjoy themselves.

Remember, the commandment that says, "be fruitful and multiply" does not decree that a husband and wife pro-create the very moment they become married. If this were the case - then the holy and righteous prophet Noah would be guilty of sin over and over again. For they did not become parents until AFTER Noah was 500 years old.

Masturbation is allowed in the torah, but what regulates it is what day it is and what your thoughts are. Again, it is NOT the act in and of itself that is sinful, [unless it falls on a holiday], but what one's thoughts are during the process.

Most people that have even the elementary level of knowledge of the bible should understand what I am talking about here. Nonetheless, I will go into it.

The Holy Torah and the holy prophets taught that a man must be holy and upright at all times. This comes by living within the bounds of the Torah, as I mentioned earlier.

In this torah, in the same chapter of Leviticus actually, it says that when a woman has her monthly period she will be unclean for an additional seven days after the time [or moment] it stops. That being said, the man can masturbate (and vice versa, so can a woman) during these days if he so desires, because he is not allowed to approach his wife during this time. When he does so, he can fantasize all he wants about his wife and her alone. If he thinks of any other woman, whether single or married he will sin. He will sin more so if he will think of the married woman obviously, because "he must not covet his neighbor's wife" and "he must not commit adultery." Whereas, if someone fornicates, in reality, he simply must marry the woman, versus being put to death as in the case for adultery.

Thus, what Judaism teaches is that holiness comes from within first, versus just resisting evil. Likewise, what Judaism teaches is that HaShem hears all your thoughts and He judges your thoughts as if you literally committed the deed. With that in mind one is more apt to do what is right, than just resisting. In fact, this "turns off the faucet" as I mentioned above. Likewise, Judaism teaches that if one is simply staying away from actual sinful deeds for the mere purpose of not being punished, such a person has missed the mark and so shall be thrown into hell. Why is that? Because those that don't do things simply because they are afraid of some judgment are not truly converted in their heart. Rather, it is only when a person desires to be righteous in and of itself can that person finally please HaShem. Thus, this man or woman has finally circumcised their heart.

Therefore, masturbation is fine according to the God of Israel and His holy torah, just not on holidays so that you do not defile those days, nor are you to think unlawful thoughts. If one cannot resist from going here and there in his/her thoughts, he/she should never pursue such pleasures at the present time, or in his/her single life.

That is your torah lesson my dear friends, thank you for seeking after the truth. This is the truth.

To brother_dave001

I went to your website. Well, right from the start we see that you love idols and icons. Then you believe in that awful and wicked trinity doctrine and many other false things. Thus, you are not a follower, not a "true" follower, of the Rabbi that was born in Bethlehem. A man or person is known by his fruits. You do not keep the ways of heaven, but the ways that are similar to that of ancient pagans, for you carry your little idol around, which can neither save you, nor deliver you. Please educate yourself, my friend.

Thank you,
MARE-GA'AL BEN YAAKOV

HESHALLGOVERN.COM

Side Note:

The reason the word "if" is there is because the torah teaches that a man must gratify his wife before himself when he and his wife come together.

Likewise, it is sinful for a man to masturbate [which I did not mention] to the point of climaxing prior to asking if his spouse would like to "unite" with him at that moment or within short period of time. For after a period of time he can build himself up again.

The commandment is found within the law of when a man has a second wife, as Abraham and Jacob did as well as many other righteous people. For in Judaism a man is allowed to have more than one wife; however, holiness is the key.

Here is the commandment, "If he [or, a man] take him another [wife]; her [the first wife or all others] food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage / marital rights, shall he not diminish," in Exodus 21:10.

Thus, in Judaism, the woman must be treated equal to, or better than, how her parents pampered her.  Nonetheless, with this commandment or ruling, even if a man may not be really in the mood, he still must gratify his wife and give her the pleasure she wants and needs. For one is not allowed to marry a woman, unless he will do these things. Because she could have had a more gratifying life with someone else. Thus, we see that a married man cannot just take pleasure in masturbation whenever he so pleases, because he must think about his wife and about her needs, wants, or desires.
*1
*1: Many things in the Torah are negotiable when it comes to certain judgments. In this particular case the woman can free the man from being obligated to pamper her as she was while under her parent's roof, if she simply wants to marry him out of love and does not care how pampered she is just as long as their together. Whereas the next woman might want to keep the lifestyle she has under her parent's roof.
